Does Pascrell agree that collective action should override individual self interest??
(Paterson, NJ) Paterson businessman Roland Straten, Republican Congressional candidate in New Jersey’s 8th District today called on his opponent, career politician Bill Pascrell, to urge his Senate colleagues to hold confirmation hearings for radical Dr. Donald Berwick, the new Medicare and Medicaid Czar given a recess appointment by President Obama.
“The new director of the Center of Medicare and Medicaid Services has views on healthcare which are radical and outside the mainstream of political thought in America,” said Straten. “His opinion that self appointed “leaders” will make better decisions than individuals is elitist and contrary to everything America stands for. His view that the collective good takes precedence over the good of the individual is dangerous and would seem to support the idea of rationed healthcare. These views need to be given a full and public airing, and I call upon Bill Pascrell to urge his Senate colleagues to hold confirmation hearings for this man.”
A July 15th Wall Street Journal opinion piece by Daniel Henninger listed a number of Dr. Berwick’s past statements. ( See link and below)
“The significance of Dr. Berwick’s worldview goes far beyond healthcare,” said Straten. “His opinion that self-anointed leaders know better than regular people what is best for them is symbolic of everything that Bill Pascrell and Nancy Pelosi stand for. The American people are overwhelmingly rejecting this philosophy and I intend to spend the next four months talking to people about my philosophy of smaller, smarter government. I look forward to contrasting my beliefs with those of Dr. Berwick and Bill Pascrell.“
