PASCRELL SENDS OUT CAMPAIGN MAILER AT TAXPAYER EXPENSE
Straten calls for Pascrell to reimburse taxpayers for curiously timed campaign advertising

(Paterson, NJ) Paterson businessman Roland Straten, Republican Congressional candidate in New Jersey’s 8th District today accused career politician Bill Pascrell of spending taxpayer money on a thinly veiled campaign brochure mailed to 8th District residents.

“Recently I was contacted by a number of people who received what they thought was a Pascrell campaign mailer’” said Straten. “When I reviewed the piece I was shocked to see that it was paid for by taxpayer dollars. I’ve seen congressional newsletters before, and this is different. This is not an informational, ‘here’s what I’ve been doing’ piece. This is a sales brochure for Bill Pascrell and the stimulus package. It’s a violation of the spirit, if not the letter of the law, and Bill Pascrell should reimburse taxpayers for this egregious waste of money.”

Federal law forbids taxpayer paid mass mail of any kind within 90 days of the general election. Pascrell’s brochure landed in mailboxes just days before the 90-day cutoff.

Straten also added “ The guy has over a million and a half dollars in his campaign account and he has to resort to this? If he thinks the stimulus was so great, he should spend his own money saying so. With all the spending this Congress has done, hasn’t Bill Pascrell wasted enough of our money?”

Straten claimed the stimulus sales job was an effort by Pascrell to address voter dissatisfaction with the outrageous and unpopular spending of Congress.

“The Pelosi/ Pascrell agenda of more spending, more borrowing and more government has sparked a huge voter backlash from people of all political affiliations. In November there is going to be a shockwave of voter discontent that takes out career politicians like Bill Pascrell and his actions over the last several weeks show that he knows it. He can send out all the glossy color mail pieces he wants, he can’t hide from his record, and I am going to spend the next three months reminding people of that record.”
