Local businessman garners coveted endorsement from America’s Mayor

PATERSON, NJ – Campaign headquarters for Roland Straten, Republican candidate for New Jersey’s
8th Congressional district, today announced the endorsement of former New York City Mayor, Rudy Giuliani. The Straten campaign calls the public support of the widely respected political icon a “shot in the arm” to a campaign that has been energized in recent weeks.

“We’re thrilled with the endorsement from America’s Mayor, especially at this pivotal time in the race,” said Campaign Manager, Bobbi Bennett.

“Mayor Giuliani’s courage in the days following the terrorist attack on 9/11 inspired a nation, and I’m honored to have his support,” said Straten. “I am committed to strengthening our national defense and giving the military the tools they need to defeat radical Islamic fundamentalism.” He added, “The mayor’s fortitude in tackling the fiscal problems in New York is just the kind of principled leadership we need in Washington today. I hope to follow his model in Congress.”

Giuliani’s decision to support the fiscally conservative candidate came after following the progress of
his campaign over the last few months. “Straten is just the kind of guy we need to send to Washington, at a time when out-of-control spending has saddled future generations with enormous debt.” Giuliani added.

“Straten believes in cutting wasteful spending, and the power of tax cuts to spur economic growth, and he will vote to repeal the Democrat’s job-killing health care entitlement. We need more people on Capitol Hill with strong backgrounds in business and economics, who understand that the private sector drives the economy, if we are to halt this march toward Socialist Democracy.”

Another reason to support this Reagan Republican, according to Giuliani, is the 40 years he spent
building a successful business and creating jobs. Straten makes no apologies for his lack of political
prowess saying, “I’m an engineer by trade, we analyze and solve problems. Most politicians look at
the issues and try to twist them to their personal advantage, rather than breaking them down and
developing viable solutions. I think we could use more problem solvers in government.”

Giuliani agrees, citing Straten’s results oriented, common sense approach to the issues of the day as
refreshingly pragmatic. “I believe that when you confront a problem you begin to solve it. Roland
understands that we need dramatic change in Washington, and time spent jockeying for position on
the issues doesn’t serve the people. Straten is the kind of no-nonsense conservative that we can trust
to put the country’s interests ahead of his own.”

WAYNE – We are not ones to frivolously claim victory, but last night’s debate with Bill Pascrell was a clear-cut Straten victory.

Not only did Pascrell fail to answer or address any of Straten’s main points, he reverted to the classical Democrat playbook of making fun of his opponent and calling Straten a liar. Pascrell’s closing arguments were nothing short of lame. He engaged in grandstanding in violation of the debate rules by introducing an Iraq veteran.

Herb Jackson’s article in the Record’s first paragraph stated: “Pascrell tried to mock and belittle Straten’s arguments.”

Pascrell had no answer to Straten’s position that the stimulus package was a failure and that we need to allow the free market to operate, to make the tax cuts permanent and reduce regulation on small business. His comment was that he had made a proposal to extend the tax cuts for up to five years and had voted for small business tax breaks. He left out that these “special” tax breaks were so full of rules and regulations to make them almost worthless.

He had no answer to any of the statistics on national debt or unemployment that Straten presented. His anger showed when Straten listed the names of the Pharmaceutical corporations who had contributed to Pascrell’s campaign: Bayer Corp, Becton Dickinson & Co, Biotechnology Industry Organization, Boehringer Ingelheim Corp, Bristol-Myers Squibb Consumer Healthcare Products Assn, Genentech Inc, GlaxoSmithKline, Hearing Industries Assn, Hoffmann-La Roche, Johnson & Johnson, & Merck & Co. Much to his relief the timekeeper called time before I could add Millennium Pharmaceuticals, Novartis Corp, Novo Nordisk, Pfizer Inc, Pharmaceutical Rsrch & Mfrs of America, Sanofi-Aventis US, and Wyeth.

After the debate his son verbally attacked Straten and Bill even made physically aggressive moves only to be thwarted by the police officer standing nearby.

The debate clearly showed that the people have an extremely clear choice this election between a career politician who has done nothing but advance his own career and a businessman engineer who knows how to make things work and wants to make life better for the people of the district.

The Record’s article can be found here: Pascrell, Straten trade shots in congressional race debate

MONTCLAIR – Former State Education Commissioner, gubernatorial candidate and Jersey City mayor Bret Schundler was the featured guest at a cocktail reception for Straten supporters held Sunday, October 24 at the home of Roland and Susan Straten. Straten, a Navy veteran and successful businessman, aims to unseat incumbent Democrat Rep. Bill Pascrell in the 8th Congressional District on Election Day, November 2.

In remarks delivered from the back deck at Straten’s Colonial-style home, Schundler endorsed the candidate and warned some 100 Straten supporters that the country’s economic situation is so dire precisely because of the current Administration’s harmful policies, all of which are supported by Bill Pascrell. “Businesses can’t invest and can’t hire because the tax and regulatory climate remains so uncertain,” Schundler said. “They don’t yet know the degree to which they’ll be affected by future tax and regulatory changes, including the health care law and the expiration of the Bush tax cuts.”

Bill Pascrell’s record includes votes for government-run health care, including half a trillion dollars in cuts to Medicare; $800 billion in failed “stimulus” spending; taxpayer-funded big business bailouts; and an economically crippling “cap and trade” energy tax.

WEST ORANGE – Reminding the assembled crowd that the state’s motto is “liberty and prosperity,” Roland Straten, Republican challenger for NJ’s 8th Congressional District seat in the House of Representatives, pledged at a “Rally for Freedom” Sunday that a vote for him will be a vote to preserve political and economic freedoms: freedoms that are slipping away because of massive debt, deficits and government controls imposed by Bill Pascrell and his fellow Democrats in the 111th Congress.

Straten was the featured speaker at the Rally, organized by Citizens for Freedom founder Domenic Cotter, who also spoke. Various local activists took turns addressing the enthusiastic crowd, including Dr. Yitzhak Berger, a local urologist, researcher and professor; Brian Goldberg, the “Advocate for Democracy” (www.advocatefordemocracy.org), whose goal is “government of, by and for ALL Americans”; Vanessa Jean-Louis, a blogger at Afroconservative.com; Sue Ann Penna, President of the Essex County Tea Party; and Bobbi Bennett, Straten for Congress campaign manager. Before the rally, Straten volunteers handed out pocket-sized Constitutions while the Apache Twins and Jimmy Tea supplied musical entertainment.

Reinforcing the rally’s theme as he spoke, Straten held aloft a Heritage Foundation report, “Mostly Free,” in which relatively low rankings are assigned to various economic freedoms in the United States as compared with other nations.

“If Pelosi and Pascrell have their way, we will be mostly unfree,” Straten said. “We need to take back our country.”
